Today, the EU and China signed a bilateral agreement to protect 100 European Geographical Indications (GIs) in China and 100 Chinese GIs in the European Union against usurpation and imitation. The 23rd meeting of the EU-China IP Working Group was held on 14 January at the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China (MOFCOM) in Beijing. Established in 2005 at the EU-China Summit, the group was set up to support the EU-China IP Dialogue. Earlier this year, the IP Key China team commissioned a study to look at how applicable the memorandum of understanding approach might be to the online anti-counterfeiting drive in China. The resulting study, which was unveiled on 21 November 2019 in Haikou, draws on over 30 surveys and in-depth interviews conducted with businesses and authorities in the EU and China as well as legal cases where the China e-Commerce law has been applied.
