Leaders from Latin America and the European Union will meet at the Regional Conference on Geographical Indications

From September 22 to 24 in the state of Jalisco, Mexico, leaders from 16 Latin American countries and authorities from European Union organisations will participate in the Regional Conference on Geographical Indications. This event is being organised by IP KEY LA to promote dialogue between both sides, in order to implement best practices and policies in the region.

Institutions such as the Directorate General for Agriculture and Rural Development of the European Commission (DG AGRI), the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and the Delegation of the European Union in Mexico will speak at conferences and debates on the subject. From Latin America, organisations such as the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property, the Court of Justice of the Andean Community, the Tequila Regulatory Council, as well as the Federation of Colombian Coffee Growers, among others, will also participate.

The main theme of the presentations (which will be given both face-to-face and online) will be strengthening the culture of geographical indications as an instrument for marketing and socioeconomic development.

After two days of these high-level conferences, the speakers and guests will go on a study visit to the area of Tequila, Jalisco, as a case of best practice in geographical indications .
