IP Key SEA joins Indonesia’s Year of Geographical Indications celebrations

This year has been designated the ‘Year of Geographical Indications’ by Indonesia’s Directorate General of Intellectual Property (DGIP), recognising the significance of geographical indications (GIs) for the economy, rural development and conservation of cultural heritage and traditional knowledge.

To mark this occasion, the DGIP organised a forum and an exhibit on GIs as part of the Intellectual Property Expo in Jakarta held on 12 and 13 June 2024, welcoming over 600 guests at the two-day event.

The IP Key South-East Asia (IP Key SEA) project participated in the celebrations by showcasing EU GIs at the exhibit and supporting the presentation of an expert from the European Commission’s Directorate General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs. The project’s involvement helped raise the visibility of key EU GIs in South-East Asian markets and enhanced the understanding of EU GI labelling as well as the future of GIs for craft and industrial products.

The GI Exhibit is one of the key activities of IP Key SEA for the 2024 annual work plan. The next GI Exhibit will take place in Thailand on 3 and 4 October.
