EUIPO is setting up a list of economic operators interested in providing independent and hands-on expertise to foster IP cooperation and increase effective awareness in the field of intellectual property rights in both EU and non-EU countries.

Series of webinars on trade mark focused on new types of trade marks and well-known marks, and preventing bad faith registrations

On 23, 25 and 29 June 2020, IP Key SEA organised a series of webinars on trade marks to discuss the new developments in non-traditional or new types of trade marks in a fast moving digital world and how these marks are assessed by IP Offices.  Protecting well-known marks and measures to prevent bad faith registrations, two issues of concern to businesses in South-East Asia, were discussed in one of the webinars.

Private sectors, ISPs and IP authorities discussed online IPR infringements in Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand

IP Key SEA organized on 10 (Indonesia), 11 (Malaysia) and 12 (Thailand) June 2020 a video conference on the Exchange of Best Practices on Industry Voluntary Measures Against Online IPR Infringements. The virtual session aimed to find effective solutions and remedies to the problems that online IPR infringements can cause.

SEA mediators equipped with mediation tools and soft skills in the South-East Asia IP Mediation Workshop

During the EUIPO IP Mediation Conference 2019, the EUIPO Boards of Appeal, the EUIPO International Cooperation and Legal Affairs Department, IP Key SEA, and SEA national IP office representatives met for the cooperation meeting. IP Key SEA had been working on the outcomes of the meeting and organised the South-East Asia IP Mediation Workshop on 27 May and 18 June 2020.

IP Key SEA works with SEA officials in the trade mark examination guidelines

Throughout the year 2020, the IP Key SEA legal experts will collaborate with the trade mark officials of the three offices, namely the Directorate General of Intellectual Property of Indonesia (DGIP), the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL), and the Department of Intellectual Property of Thailand (DIP) in drafting and reviewing examination guidelines at the national level.

Thai officials and EU experts exchanged thoughts on copyright law reform in Thailand

On 11 September 2020, copyright and IP officials from the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) of Thailand met with EU copyright and related rights experts in a virtual technical meeting and exchanged thoughts on the ongoing copyright law reform in Thailand. The meeting was organised to continue providing technical support for the country’s efforts enhancing its copyright protection and enforcement regime.
