New study on GIs in Vietnam

IP Key SEA is commissioning a study on accountable controls and supervision mechanisms to guarantee an efficient and reliable implementation and enforcement of a geographical indications system in Vietnam. The EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement, expected to enter into force in the course of 2018, includes commitments in new areas to ensure enhanced protection of intellectual property rights such as geographical indications. The results of the study will be available in September 2018.

IP Key SEA hosts colloquium for the Philippine judiciary

A roundtable discussion for judges, court attorneys, and academics to share best practices on intellectual property (IP) was held in Manila on 24-25 April 2018.  The ‘Colloquium on Intellectual Property for the Judiciary’ saw an opportunity for local, regional, and international stakeholders to compare practical and theoretical expertise with the aim to enhance the capacity of judges and court attorneys on the efficient, effective, and expeditious disposition of IP cases.

IPKey SEA dialogue for IP mediators advances capacity in the Philippines

IPKey SEA organized an ‘Exchange of Best Practice for Mediators’ in Manila on 23-24 April 2018. Opened by IP Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) Deputy Director General Nelson P. Laluces and IP Key SEA Project Leader Ignacio de Medrano Caballero, the event provided a venue for sharing the current initiatives of the IPOPHL on mediation in IP cases, and focused on discussions around ways of implementing IP mediation in the European Union and the Philippines.

IP Key SEA officially launched in Bangkok on the 2nd of April, during an event attended by Mr Antonio Campinos, EUIPO Executive Director, Ms Chutima Bunyapraphasara, Deputy Minister of Commerce of Thailand, Mr Pirkka Tapiola, EU Ambassador to Thailand , representatives of the European Union Member States and business environment representatives.

Fact Finding Missions through South East Asia

During the two Fact Finding Missions through South East Asia, held between October and November 2017, contacts with a vast array of stakeholders gave rise to numerous ideas and areas of mutual cooperation. Fact-finding mission

A second fact-finding mission has been carried out in the Philippines between 9-10 November 2017. The meetings held served as platform for highlighting status, developments and possible challenges regarding the launch of the project, and the identification of interest areas, expectations and priorities of Philippine Government and Industry representatives.
