Promotion of EU/Hong Kong customs cooperation on IPR enforcement working Group meeting in Brussels and Study visit to Germany, Belgium and France. 4-7 December

IP Key China partnered with DG TAXUD and the Hong Kong Customs & Excise Department the organisation of the visit. EU and HK Customs Officers participated in meetings and “on-the-job” visits to EU airports, seaports and relevant customs offices. The visit aimed at exchange knowledge on risk assessment methodology and control approach.

An initiative in the framework of the EU-China IP Academic Network, organised by IP Key China and hosted by Fudan University Law School.

The third edition of the EU-China IP Academic Forum took place on 22 November 2018 in Shanghai, hosted by Fudan University Law School.

The Forum aimed at academics from the EU and China to discuss the latest IP topics, research and funding cooperation opportunities as well as the future of the EU-China IP Academic Network (EUCIPAN).

From 6-8 November, IP Key China cooperated with the DG TAXUD and the Hong Kong Customs & Excise Department in the organisation of a working group meeting in Hong Kong. Customs officers from 7 EU Member States (Spain, Sweden, UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and Italy) together with the Officers from the Hong Kong Customs & Excise Department participated in this activity.

On 6 November, co-organised with and hosted by Xiamen Intermediate People’s Court, in cooperation with Xiamen University Intellectual Property Institute and CAASA, IP Key China held an IP Café event, featuring open discussions about IPR protection on e-commerce, across enforcement measures and voluntary cooperation models. Experts, judges and academics from EU and China participated in this event, to exchange views and learn from each other’s experience.

IP Key China partnered with CAASA (China Anti-infringement and Anti-counterfeiting Innovation Strategic Alliance) in the organisation of the 2018 EU-China Conference on IPR Protection Online and Innovation, which took place at  Xiamen International Conference Centre (Fujian province) between 3-5 November 2018.

Following the success of previous Roving Seminars, IPKey China completed a series of activities on China’s patent system on 17-21 September. The seminar series were organised in partnership with the National Intellectual Property Office, PRC.  Ms. Dong Cheng, Deputy Director General of CNIPA provided an overview of the Patent system in China.

The seminar on design and conducing DUS trials in vegetables and ornamentals was successfully concluded in Shanghai on 15 September. This seminar was conducted with the active contributions of EU and Chinese DUS examiners. IP Key China, supporting the CPVO, co-organised the seminar with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MOARA) and the State Forestry and Grassland Administration (SFGA, through their PVP agency Development Centre of Science and Technology (DCST). The seminar, which was followed by technical field missions, was held over 5 days, starting on 11 September.

European stakeholders can benefit from improved awareness on how to use the patent system in China (comprising invention patents, utility models, and registered designs). IP Key China, in partnership with China’s National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA, formerly SIPO) and European Stakeholders, will continue hosting a range of roving seminars which have taken place in the EU since 2015. These are specifically meant for right holder and right holder associations, IP professionals and other interested parties.

The 20th EU-China Summit was held on 16 July 2018. H.E. Li Keqiang, Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, H.E. Donald Tusk, President of the European Council, and H.E. Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, met in Beijing for the Summit.
