IP Key LA continues its efforts to promote the “network effect” in Latin American IP offices

IP Key Latin America, with the support of the National Institute of Industrial Property of Brazil (INPI) and of the European Patent Office (EPO), hosted a workshop in Rio de Janeiro on the use of free patent information tools of the EPO.  The activity is in line with the experience of the European Union Intellectual Property Network which promotes the adoption of common practices and the development and deployment of technological tools that help improve the functioning of IP offices and provide easy access to information on patents, trademarks and designs.

IP Key LA and the EU brought their experience in convergence and harmonization criteria to the Trade mark Experts Sub Regional Workshop of Central American countries and the Dominican Republic jointly organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and The General Direction of Intellectual Property of Honduras (DIGEPIH).

Collective Management of Copyright and Related Rights: Exchange of Best Practices

The activity, which will take place in Chile on the 29th and 30th of October, consists in a seminar where participants will review the types of Copyrights applicable for visual artists, enshrined in Latin American copyright laws. It will also observe the obstacles that may exist in the region for their effective implementation.

Sub regional Workshop of Trade mark Experts from Central American Countries and the Dominican Republic

IP Key will participate in the Trade mark Experts Sub Regional Workshop of Central American countries and the Dominican Republic jointly organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and The General Direction of Intellectual Property of Honduras (DIGEPIH). The activity will take place in Tegucigalpa, Honduras between October 17th - 19th, 2018, and is aimed mainly at trade mark examiners.

Brazil

Training Event for Patent Examiners

The activity consists in a two-day workshop in Brazil and will take place next October 23rd and 24th, with the objective of providing a hands-on training on free EPO tools (Espacenet, CCD and Global Dossier). The training, to be carried out by an EPO official, is a contribution by IP Key LA to help Latin American IPOs increase in the efficiency and predictability of their examination decisions though a better understanding of EPO tools and an improved understanding of EPO search reports.

Ecuador joins TMclass

As of 25 September 2018, Ecuador’s National Service of Intellectual Rights (SENADI) joins TMclass with the latest version of the Nice classification.

This latest addition brings the total number of national and regional IP Offices, including ARIPO, OAPI, WIPO and EUIPO, involved in the tool to 72.

TMclass offers users the opportunity to search for goods and services. The tool also facilitates translation to and from any of the 44 available languages.

Innovation, Business and Intellectual Property in Mercosur countries

Intellectual property is a powerful tool for investment, growth and job creation. Furthermore, knowing how to manage and exploit IP opens the door to innovation and competitiveness, both in Europe and in Latin America.

For this reason, IP Key Latin America has launched a series of initiatives to support companies, SMEs, universities and other economic actors, focused on the use of IPR in the different stages of the innovation process in a global context or within the framework of transnational association agreements.

IP Key LA advances in the promotion of the "network effect" and regional cooperation in Panama

To deepen the operational aspects, as well as the benefits and specificities of the Singapore Treaty on the Law of Trademarks, WIPO and the General Directorate of the Registry of Industrial Property (DIGERPI) of Panama, organized a seminar in Panama, together with IP Key Latin America - as proof of its interest in promoting regional cooperation and greater integration in the processing of IPRs.
