European Union to be Guest of Honour at the FIL Guadalajara 2023

The Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL) will welcome the European Union as Guest of Honour for its 37th edition, from 25 November to 3 December 2023. This event, one of the most important in the literary world, will become a meeting place between Europe, Mexico, Latin America and the Caribbean, with the aim of strengthening ties and creating new areas of collaboration.

The theme of the EU's participation in the FIL is ‘Building a Union of Cultures’, an invitation to explore the cultural richness and diversity that characterises both regions. More than 70 writers from all 27 EU countries, as well as Ukraine, will be present, reflecting literary plurality and diverse styles. This presence extends to various fields, from youth literature to scientific thought.

In addition to the literary presentations, the EU will offer an extensive artistic programme, including concerts, contemporary dance, visual arts exhibitions and a gastronomic exhibition. This diversity will also be reflected in the European Film Festival, in collaboration with the Cineteca de Guadalajara, which will present 30 recent films from all EU Member States.

IP Key Latin America will participate in the International Forum of Publishers and Book Professionals, presenting three panels: Copyright and current challenges for publishers in the EU and Latin America, Seminar on Copyright as a promoter of literary works and Mechanisms and good practices for inclusive intellectual property.

Designed with sustainability and inclusion in mind, the European Union pavilion will be a space for cultural exchange, presentations and meetings between professionals, artists and the public. This event aims to promote dialogue, cultural exchange and the establishment of long-term artistic and professional collaborations.

The FIL Guadalajara 2023 is a space for the union of cultures, literary diversity and the promotion of shared values through art and literature, honouring the special invitation of the European Union as a prominent protagonist of this great event.
