IP Key participated in the online seminar "Systems of Madrid and The Hague in Mexico", organised by IMPI and WIPO

On 27 May, IP Key LA participated in an online seminar, organised by WIPO and the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI). The activity "Systems of Madrid and The Hague in Mexico" convened national and international experts to discuss the uses, benefits and experiences with both systems. IP Key LA Deputy Project Leader, Martin Schlotelburg, presented "Experiences of Europe and Mexico under the Hague Agreement: opportunities and challenges for companies and creators to protect their designs abroad" together with the Departmental Coordinator for the Examination of Industrial Designs - Patent Directorate Division of IMPI, Luis Silverio Pérez Altamirano.

In his speech, Schlotelburg explained that the adhesion of the European Union to the Hague Agreement in 2008 turned out to be a full success, “Europeans are now among top users of the Hague System for international registrations of designs.”

On 6 June 2020 Mexico joined the Hague System. “Mexican industry, in particular small and medium sized enterprises so well-known for their creativity, will certainly benefit from this new development the same way as the EU did,” Schlotelburg concluded.
