2023 EU-China Exchange on IP for Prosecutors

Successful conclusion of three-day intellectual property exchange for European and Chinese prosecutors

The three-day intellectual property exchange for European and Chinese prosecutors has concluded successfully. Since 2014, the EU and Supreme People’s Procuratorate of China have collaborated on multiple occasions with the technical support of the IP Key China project, including peer-to-peer exchanges, study visits, training sessions, and online seminars.

In the latest manifestation of this partnership, IP Key China and Supreme People’s Procuratorate of China once again collaborated to organise an intellectual property exchange between Chinese and European prosecutors. Experts from the EU IP Observatory and prosecutors from EU member states were invited to visit the Shanghai People's Procuratorate, Shanghai Pudong People's Procuratorate, Suzhou People's Procuratorate, and Suzhou Industrial Park People's Procuratorate. During these visits, discussions were held with the Procurator Generals and Procurators from the respective Procuratorates on the review and determination of electronic evidence, alternative charges involving IP crimes, and criminal investigations in Europe and China, among other topics.

The issue of IPR criminal enforcement, in particular concerning the infringements of IPRs in the digital environment, has been at the forefront of concerns for European and Chinese criminal enforcement agencies. Maintaining continuous exchanges and communication between the EU and China is key to supporting transnational IP criminal enforcement cooperation and policy development. IP Key's ongoing support aims at fortifying in the face of challenges and facilitating practical exchanges.
