EU-China IP Academia Network Feasibility Study Workshop

The workshop held on the 20- 21 June bought together academics from both the EU and Chinese universities, to discuss the development of an EU-China IP Research Network.

Academia cooperation was highlighted as a key element in the  Memorandum of Understanding on reinforcing the EU-China IP Dialogue Mechanism, which was signed (with Ms. Cecilia Malmström, Commissioner for Trade, and Mr. GAO Hucheng, Minister of Commerce of China) on the sidelines of the EU-China Summit, on 29 June 2015 in Brussels.

As part of the EU-China IP Academia Network feasibility study activity, this meeting with European and Chinese Academia, discussed a range of activities, legal constraints, competences and structures that exist and how to support such cooperation.  The workshop is the final stage of the  feasibility study.

The meeting was conducted under close coordination of DG Trade and MOFCOM and moderated by the expert team assigned by IP Key.

The landscape document is being updated with further Chinese input and the Blueprint and Roadmap are being edited based on discussions during the workshop.

The documents and presentations discussed are available to download on the right.

The workshop highlighted a number of areas that need to be developed and will be presented in the final feasibility study. The study will be complete in early July and elements from the study will be discussed further during a workshop to be held in London on the 7 November in the margins of the EU-China IP Forum.
