IP Key China to Host Annual Stakeholders Event in Beijing

IP Key China is set to host its Annual Stakeholders Event on 10 September 2025, bringing together leading experts and stakeholders from both the European Union and China for a high-level exchange in the fields of intellectual property (IP). This hybrid-format event, taking place both onsite in Beijing and online on Zoom platform, aims at strengthening mutual understanding on IP protection and enforcement while highlighting the achievements over the past three years under the IP Key China Phase II project.

Organised in the afternoon Beijing time, the event will feature presentations and panel discussions on:

  • continuous engagement between EU and Chinese stakeholders in advancing IP dialogue and exchanges;
  • emerging IP challenges in an age of rapid technological innovation.

Participants will include representatives from the European Commission, EU Delegation in Beijing, EUIPO, CPVO and EPO, as well as EU Member States, key Chinese authorities, industry associations, the private sector and academia. The event’s format has been designed to accommodate convenient participation from both Europe and China.

The agenda includes:

  • opening remarks by DG Trade representative;
  • presentation of project results by Gyta Berasnevičiūtė-Singh, Project Lead of IP Key China;
  • two thematic panel discussions:
    • Panel 1: Enhancing the IP Ecosystem Through International Collaboration – addressing recent reforms, digitalisation and strategic priorities;
    • Panel 2: Navigating the IP Landscape in the Era of Emerging Technologies – focusing on the influence of technologies like AI and online marketplaces on IP systems.
  • closing remarks by João Negrão, the Executive Director of the EUIPO.

Following the main event, participants attending in person in Beijing will be invited to a networking cocktail, providing further opportunities for informal exchanges and making contacts.

The Stakeholders Event not only underscores the value of sustained EU-China exchange on IP matters in an evolving global environment, but also marks the closing of the current phase of the IP Key China project.
