South-East Asia IP Judges’ Virtual Roundtable hosted by IP Key SEA

In 2020, IP Key South-East Asia (SEA) hosted on 6 and 7 October the South-East Asia IP Judges’ Virtual Roundtable. The online event included sessions on vital issues concerning IPR judicial enforcement. Senior IP judges and officials from Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand attended the event.

Throughout the two days of sessions, Mr. Erling Vestergaard, EU Expert from the European Observatory on Infringements of IP Rights, shared his experiences from the EU perspective, specifically on the EU’s legal system on intellectual property, the judge's role in the enforcement of IP rights, and the internet environment for the judiciary.

The roundtable also included presentations from the South-East Asian countries’ IP judges on relevant issues such as the relevant national and international legal frameworks, special rules of procedure, and criminal remedies for IPR violations. IP Key SEA will continue to provide a platform for IP judges and officials to exchange national approaches in handling cases concerning IPR infringements through future project activities.
