IP Key SEA Roving Seminars and Workshops on Trade Marks and Industrial Designs

During July and August, the IP Key South-East Asia (IP Key SEA) project organised roving seminars on trade marks and industrial designs, as well as a closed workshop on industrial designs. Whereas the former were open to the public and targeted the business sector, the latter was addressed to examiners from national IP offices.

The roving seminars on trade marks and industrial designs, organised in Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia on 26, 30 July and 2 August 2024 respectively, aimed to renew interest among businesses operating in South-East Asia (SEA) on the need to protect their trade marks and designs in the SEA countries and in the European Union. Over 100 attendees participated in each event, learning about the latest developments in IP rights protection and tools for users. Speakers included an expert from the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and the Project Leader of IP Key SEA as well as the respective intellectual property offices of the three countries.

The closed workshop sharing best practices in the examination of industrial designs was organised on 31 July 2024 in Thailand. This event provided IP officials from Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam the opportunity to share their practices on various topics, including public policy, morality, product indication, application and classification, examination tools, and statutory prohibitions.
