Between the 14th and 16th of May, Ricardo Ferreira, deputy project leader, participated in a series of workshops related to the protection of brands and designs. These were organized by the IP Key, the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) and the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office, O.A. (OEPM).

Peru has decided to use the list of terms from the harmonised database in TMclass

As of 07 May 2018 the National Institute for the Defence of Free Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property of Peru (INDECOPI) has decided to use the list of goods and services from the harmonised database (HDB) in TMclass.

As a result, Peru is one of the first two non-EU IP offices that will use terms from HDB, one of the expected outcomes of the strategic project “Extension of tools” within EUIPO’s international cooperation projects. This project aims at extending the reach of the EUIPN’s tools beyond the EU for the benefit of global users.

Chile se une a TMview

Desde el día 26 de abril de 2018, el Instituto Nacional de Propiedad Intelectual de Chile (INAPI) ha puesto a disposición los datos de marcas registradas en la herramienta de búsqueda de TMview.

Con la incorporación del INAPI y de sus 575000 marcas registradas, TMview brinda información y acceso a más de 49,8 millones de marcas registradas, de un total de 65 oficinas.

IP Key SEA hosts colloquium for the Philippine judiciary

A roundtable discussion for judges, court attorneys, and academics to share best practices on intellectual property (IP) was held in Manila on 24-25 April 2018.  The ‘Colloquium on Intellectual Property for the Judiciary’ saw an opportunity for local, regional, and international stakeholders to compare practical and theoretical expertise with the aim to enhance the capacity of judges and court attorneys on the efficient, effective, and expeditious disposition of IP cases.

IPKey SEA organized an ‘Exchange of Best Practice for Mediators’ in Manila on 23-24 April 2018. Opened by IP Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) Deputy Director General Nelson P. Laluces and IP Key SEA Project Leader Ignacio de Medrano Caballero, the event provided a venue for sharing the current initiatives of the IPOPHL on mediation in IP cases, and focused on discussions around ways of implementing IP mediation in the European Union and the Philippines.

Andean Community (CAN) visits EUIPO

Former Ambassador of Peru, Jose Antonio Arróspide, and currently Director-General of the Andean Community (CAN), is visiting EUIPO on Tuesday 10 April 2018. This visit has been organised by IP Key Latin America, one of the EU-funded projects under ICLAD’s responsibility.

The aim of this visit is to strengthen the cooperation between the Andean Community and IP Key LA considering that the European Union is one of the principal investors for the Andean countries (Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia and Peru).
