Inventor remuneration rules workshop

IP Key held a workshop on inventor remuneration rules at Renmin University Law School in Beijing on July 17th 2015. The purpose of this workshop is to provide an understanding of how government-mandated systems for inventor remuneration function in EU Member States and China, and to investigate the impacts of these systems. These insights and related research under IP Key are intended to assess the optimality of state-mandated inventor remuneration rules, with a view to proposing a system that minimises the most avoidable costs and risks therein to employers while encouraging innovation.

Copyright Enforcement and Collective Management in the Digital Era: NCAC visit to the EU

This study visit aims to keep Chinese copyright administrative authority abreast of the recent regulatory and technical developments in the area of online copyright enforcement and collective management in Europe at a time where Chinese Copyright Law undergoes final legislative review, leading the way to the preparation of secondary legislation in related these areas.

Academic EU-China Intellectual Property Roundtable

IP Key and Renmin University held the first EU-China IP roundtable with IP academics and judges. The purpose of the roundtable was to discuss how the EU and China, in particular academics, can work together to solve common issues in IP, be it drafting legislation, ways of sharing information and intervention.

This is the first time EU and Chinese academics have come together in this way to share their ideas in an open environment. The feedback from this meeting will help to develop the relationship further in the months to come.

10 Year Anniversary of the EU-China IP Dialogue Mechanism Flagship Event Brussels

The Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China, (MOFCOM), and DG Trade of the European Commission, celebrated  the 10th anniversary of the EU-China IP Dialogue Mechanism with a high-level event in Brussels on June 29th. It was in the margins of the EU-China Summit and included the signing of a new memorandum of understanding on future cooperation in IP matters.

EU and Chinese high-level representatives discussed the achievements of this dialogue mechanism and looked at how this process will develop in the next 10 years.

EU-China Intellectual Property Forum: Insight IP-Future perspectives

IP Key and Renmin University of China jointly organised the first EU-China IP Forum on the 10th May 2015, which discussed a number of key issues in the development of IP laws, policy and education.

 The forum brought together some of the most important IP minds in the EU and China to share and debate IP issues that affect the creation of an effective, fair and transparent system. Around 200 participants took part in the forum. Participants came from relevant sectors in governmental and diplomatic services, academia, legal services, industry, and industry associations.

Endorsement of IP Key’s Yearly Action Plan 2015

IP Key’s Yearly Action Plan (YAP) for 2015 was endorsed by its respective management boards in February. The YAP 2015 was drafted in close consultation with a total of 15 Chinese agencies and ministries under the coordination of MOFCOM. It contains an ambitious programme which constitutes the working basis of the New EU-China IP Cooperation. The activities, as listed and described below, will be implemented in cooperation with the relevant Chinese counterparts as highlighted.

Follow up Peer to Peer Exchange on the Reform of the PRC Patent Law

Last July 2014, a ministry-led delegation of the Legislative Affair Commission at the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (LAC) travelled to the EU (Ireland and Denmark) to engage in a series of workshops and expert meetings organised by IP Key. The aim was to consult and exchange with European experts from PTOs, University, Government and law profession on various patent law reform policy issues.
