New study on GIs in Vietnam

IP Key SEA is commissioning a study on accountable controls and supervision mechanisms to guarantee an efficient and reliable implementation and enforcement of a geographical indications system in Vietnam. The EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement, expected to enter into force in the course of 2018, includes commitments in new areas to ensure enhanced protection of intellectual property rights such as geographical indications. The results of the study will be available in September 2018.

Awareness on the importance of protected geographical indications as a tool for sustainable development and prosperity has increased in the region. In this context, the study will further provide key information and knowledge to better control the quality of local protected by geographical indications in Vietnam. It will also help GIs reach improved compliance to their respective technical specifications.
