Southeast Asian IP officials to see first-hand the importance of GI protection for local business

Senior officials from several Southeast Asian IP offices will visit producers of products protected as geographical indications (GIs) in northern Italy on 28 September - 1 October to better understand what GI protection does for sustainable development and economic prosperity. The activity will focus on how the producers promote their GIs and the EU practices on the enforcement and control of GIs.

Officials from the IP offices of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand will participate in the study visit along with EUIPO and IP Key SEA representatives.

Attendees will see first-hand the unique sites and production processes for Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, Aceto Balsamico Modena, Garda Olive Oil and Apples of Val di Non. Presentations will be made by the producers on the benefits of GI protection, strategies to promote their GIs, and ensuring the quality of their GIs.
