The EUIPO Collaborates with IP Vietnam to Combat Counterfeiting in Southeast Asia
The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) collaborated with the Intellectual Property Office of Vietnam (IP Vietnam) to organize the Workshop on the Fight Against Counterfeit Goods in Southeast Asia on 7-8 November 2024, as part of the IP Key South-East Asia (IP Key SEA) Project.
The workshop, held in Hanoi and livestreamed via Zoom, brought together experts from the EUIPO, IP Vietnam, and other key stakeholders, including representatives from major brands and geographical indication (GI) associations in the European Union (EU), such as Asiago, Bordeaux, LEGO, oriGIn, and Servier, as well as authorities from JETRO, USPTO, and INPI France. Participants shared the latest information on issues, trends, modus operandi, and challenges related to the infringement of trademarked and GI-registered products in physical and online marketplaces.
The two-day workshop attracted over 150 participants, both on-site and online, who engaged in lively discussions on combating counterfeiting and identifying counterfeit goods in an increasingly complex environment. Several speakers highlighted the need for enhanced cooperation across sectors to improve IP rights enforcement.
The EUIPO, through its European Observatory on Infringements of Intellectual Property Rights, plays a key role in the fight against counterfeiting, managing networks of stakeholders affected by counterfeiting and publishing reports with data on fakes from around the world. This workshop demonstrates the EUIPO’s commitment to promoting international cooperation and sharing best practices in the fight against IP right infringement.
