Support to UPOV 1991 Accession: Benefits to Society and Promoting Sustainability

The activity is aimed at continuing to raise awareness on plant variety protection and the benefits of the UPOV 1991 Act. The seminar focuses on the importance of plant variety protection to address concerns regarding food security and climate change, as well as to promote a better understanding of the issues relevant to strengthening PVP systems and UPOV 1991 Act membership.

Study on the Economic Impact of IP in the SEA Countries

Following the model and methodology adopted by the EUIPO, through the European Observatory on Infringements of Intellectual Property Rights, in preparing the Analysis Report on IPR-intensive Industries and Economic Performance in the European Union, the study aims to provide an assessment of the combined contribution of industries that make intensive use of the various types of IPRs to the economy of interested SEA countries.

On-Demand Support for FTA Implementation

Following the conclusion of Free Trade Agreements with Singapore and Viet Nam, the IP Key SEA Phase II Action continues to provide support and assistance for the implementation of the IPR-related commitments undertaken by the SEA countries. To define specific activities, consultations are conducted with the relevant government agencies and stakeholders. Indicative activities include studies, seminars, and peer-to-peer meetings that help to identify the technical needs of SEA countries and facilitate the implementation of their FTA commitments.

On-Demand Assistance for Bilateral Trade Agreement Negotiations or IP Dialogues

As the IP Key SEA Phase II Action is designed to facilitate bilateral trade agreement negotiations and IP Dialogues, the project continues to provide technical expertise and assistance geared towards strengthening knowledge-based policy making in the SEA countries through the conduct of IP studies and other forms of assistance as may be needed. This activity covers initiatives identified with trade agreement partner countries in SEA, such as reports, studies, seminars, or meetings, among others, which can be useful in ensuring positive results from the negotiations and dialogues.

Official visit of the Viet Nam IP Office to the EUIPO in Alicante, Spain

On Monday 11 December the senior management of the Intellectual Property Office of Viet Nam (IP Viet Nam) visited the premises of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) in Alicante, Spain. During the visit, the renewal of the bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed and exchanges took place on the latest developments and activities and future priorities of both offices. The go-live of the integration of IP Viet Nam trade mark data into TMview was also announced. During the rest of the visit, technical meetings were held with various EUIPO departments.

Thailand joins DESIGNview

As of 07 December 2023, the Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) Ministry of Commerce Thailand has made its design data available to the DESIGNview search tool.

With DIP Thailand on board of DESIGNview, the tool now contains data from 77 participating offices.

With the addition of more than 74.000 Designs from DIP Thailand, DESIGNview now provides information and access to more than 21.1 million Designs in total.
