Social Media Awareness Raising Campaign on IP Protection and Enforcement

This campaign will involve a series of regularly published content on the project’s social media channels, localised audio-visual materials for target countries, press relations activities and content co-created and published by prominent online media outlets in SEA countries, preferably in local languages.

Forum on Industry Cooperation Against IP Infringements

This activity will continue the progressive approach adopted in Phase I of the IP Key SEA project that advocates for the adoption of voluntary agreements or Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between intermediaries, service providers and IPR owners in SEA. These agreements will be supervised by national IP authorities as a means to reinforce the fight against counterfeiting and piracy in both online and offline environments.

Workshop on Border Control and IPR Enforcement in the EU and Southeast Asia

This activity aims to establish a platform for closer coordination between EU and SEA law enforcement authorities, specifically customs authorities, to adopt international best practices in detecting and detaining IP- infringing goods at the borders. It will also raise awareness about the latest modus operandi and methods adopted by infringers in cross-border trafficking. The workshop will not only share global best practices but also enhance coordination between relevant authorities and customs officials in combating IP crimes.

Conference on Geographical Indications

This activity will continue the project’s efforts to promote adequate and effective GI protection in the SEA region. The conference will cover issues relating to the protection and enforcement of GIs and will showcase positive impact of a strong GI protection system, including the promotion of domestic and international tourism through GI products.

Best Practices in the Examination of Industrial Designs in the EU

This activity involves organising workshops to promote the convergence of practices and exchange information on key issues affecting EU businesses operating in SEA. Topics include the benefits of adequate and effective protection, procedures for the filing of applications and international standards and best practices in the processing of applications for industrial designs protection.

This activity involves organising workshops to promote the convergence of practices and exchange information on key issues affecting EU businesses operating in SEA. Topics include bad faith applications, protection of well-known marks and the impact of new technologies on the examination of trade mark applications.

Protecting and Marketing Geographical Indications in Thailand

This activity aims to promote the EU sui generis GI system, improve compliance with strict GI control standards by national authorities at policy and operational levels and emphasise the need for stronger GI control and enforcement mechanisms to enhance national GI systems.

Support to UPOV 1991 Accession

This activity is aimed at continuing to raise awareness on plant variety protection and the benefits of the UPOV 1991 Act. The activity entails the provision of support to SEA countries in enhancing their respective plant variety protection systems and in promoting accession to the UPOV 1991 Act. Awareness raising seminars and workshops will be organised under this activity.

Support and Assistance for the Implementation of Free Trade Agreements

Following the conclusion of Free Trade Agreements with Singapore and Viet Nam, the IP Key SEA Phase II Action will continue to provide support and assistance for the implementation of the IPR-related commitments undertaken by the SEA countries. To define specific activities, consultations will be conducted with the relevant government agencies and stakeholders. Indicative activities include studies, seminars and peer-to-peer meetings that would identify the technical needs of SEA countries and facilitate the implementation of their FTA commitments.

Technical Expertise and Assistance for Bilateral Trade Agreement Negotiations and IP Dialogue

As the IP Key SEA Phase II Action is designed to facilitate bilateral trade agreement negotiations and IP Dialogues, the project will continue to provide technical expertise and assistance geared towards strengthening knowledge-based policy making in the SEA countries through the conduct of IP studies and other forms of assistance as may be needed.
