Third IP Enforcement Week: Judges Symposium

On the 17 18 December, selected judges from courts of the Andean Region as well as IP officials of the Andean IPOs joined the Third IP Enforcement and Governance Week to participate in the Judges Symposium.

In his opening remarks, EU Ambassador to Ecuador, Mr Charles-Michel Geurts,  highlighted the role of new technologies, team efforts and the support of local stakeholders in making possible the Enforcement Week and this Symposium in particular. He went on to say that: ‘During this week we will have the opportunity to bring together the main authorities and strategic actors responsible for the enforcement of IPRs. This includes Industrial Property Offices, members of the judiciary and customs offices in several countries, as well as professionals and companies that generate and use IP as a strategic tool.’

Led by European Judge Mr Angel Galgo Peco and European Professor Dr Felipe Palau, this event was designed to foster the discussion of recent case-law and to analyse best practices, emphasising the complexity of enforcing IP rights in the context of a pandemic. Cases discussed included trade mark, industrial design, patent and copyright infringements.
