Collective Management of Copyright and Related Rights: Exchange of Best Practices

The activity, which will take place in Chile on the 29th and 30th of October, consists in a seminar where participants will review the types of Copyrights applicable for visual artists, enshrined in Latin American copyright laws. It will also observe the obstacles that may exist in the region for their effective implementation.

Specific attention will be paid to identifying strategies and synergies with the potential to help promoting the development of a sound copyright system, including collective management, for the visual arts. An update of the latest EU-wide legislation (Directive 2014/26/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 26 February 2014 on collective management of copyright and related rights) will be provided by an EU expert.

The two-day seminar will conclude with a session dedicated to the creation of a work-plan to promote the development of visual arts CMOs, and its supporting legislation, in Latin America. Particular attention will be paid to the development of legislation of artists’ re-sale rights (“droit-de-suite”).

Representatives from different Visual Arts CMOs from Latin America, artists, CISAC and EU experts will join IP Key LA in this event.
