Experts workshop on geographical indications
On 26 May 2021 IP Key China organised an EU-China experts workshop on geographical indications (GI). Participants from the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development at the European Commission, the China National Intellectual Property Administration, the European Union Intellectual Property Office and the EU Delegation to China exchanged knowledge and expertise on important issues for the implementation of the EU-China GIs agreement.
The workshop included sessions on key topics such as the consequences of the entry into force of the agreement, the legal and institutional framework of protection of GIs in the EU and in China as well as the EUIPO’s experience of dealing with the co-existence of GIs and trade marks.
Knowledge sharing and awareness raising at all levels and involving all stakeholders of the agri-food chain are crucial for the successful implementation of the agreement. IP Key China will keep its commitment towards the EU-China cooperation regarding GIs and is already preparing the next activity which will be to share expertise on GI and trade mark examination.
