Seminar on the Latest Developments in the Field of Patents in the EU and China
On 19 May 2022, IP Key China and the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) co-organised the Seminar on the Latest Developments in the Field of Patents in the EU and China, attracting more than 160 participants online. This comes after the seminar on trade marks from March.
On the first topic of legislation and practices on designs, the expert from the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) introduced the EU design system, including the latest developments in the fields of partial design protection, Graphical User Interface (GUI) and shared experiences on searching for existing designs. The Chinese counterpart presented the changes in the provisions for industrial designs introduced by the fourth amendment of the Chinese Patent Law.
The second topic focused on legislation and practices on patent invalidation. The expert of the European Patent Office (EPO) presented the patent invalidation system in the EU, while the expert from CNIPA delivered the latest development of the Chinese patent invalidation system, including changes in the provisions for patent invalidation stipulated by the fourth amendment of the Chinese Patent Law. The presentations were followed by a question and answer session that allowed the participants to exchange views on the topics.
Directed by the European Commission and implemented by the EUIPO, IP Key China fosters long-term IP dialogue and exchange between the EU and China.
