Webinar for prosecutors and agents specialised in Intellectual Property

IP Key Latin America co-organised the ‘Webinar for prosecutors and agents specialised in Intellectual Property’ (4 May 2023), together with the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), the Intellectual Property Crime Investigation Brigade (BRIDEPI - part of the Chilean Investigative Police) and the National Chilean Prosecutor's Office.

Regular monitoring of IP Chapter Commitments

External experts will be engaged to monitor and report on the following, among others:

  1. Up-to-date information on the state of play of legislative initiatives
  2. Information on enforcement initiatives or actions.
  3. Any local developments concerning IPR protection and enforcement in all issues covered by the FTA.
  4. Number of protected GIs under their domestic legislation for agri-good and other; enforcement provisions/practice.

Enforcement week - Seminar for judges

In an effort to strengthen the enforcement of intellectual property rights (IPR) in Latin America, the European Union (EU) participated in a two-day seminar held on 6-7 July 2023 in Brazil. Organised in Rio de Janeiro, this event helped to improve judicial procedures and the interpretation of intellectual property laws, ultimately raising the standards of enforcement of intellectual property rights in the region.

Enforcement week – Seminar on border enforcement in MERCOSUR

A seminar dedicated to improving the protection and enforcement of intellectual property (IP) in Latin America took place in the Tri-Border region of Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. As part of Enforcement Week, this event aimed to address the prevailing challenges facing Latin American countries in the fight against piracy and counterfeiting. By providing comprehensive training to customs officers and fostering cross-border cooperation, the seminar helped to create awareness on the capacity of law enforcement agencies by using practices with EU standards.

Enforcement week -Forum on Enforcement in the digital world

At the forum on enforcement in the digital world, IP Key Latin America’s objective was to address online piracy and other infringements of intellectual property rights. The activity helped to increase the awareness and capacity of Latin American authorities to protect and enforce IP rights. In addition, it provided the exchange of best practices to address counterfeiting and piracy in online markets between EU and international experts and Latin American authorities.

Study visit to support International Treaties

In order to support Peru, Colombia and Chile in their preparations for possible accession to the Madrid Protocol and the Hague System, representatives from these countries visited the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO - Alicante) and the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM) between 18 and 22 September. The visit was organised by the IP Key Latin America project, funded by the European Union. The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) also collaborated in this initiative.
