The EUIPO supports South-East Asian countries in strengthening border control and intellectual property right enforcement
The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) is at the forefront of the fight against counterfeiting, spearheading efforts by hosting the European Observatory on Infringements of Intellectual Property Rights. An integral part of the EUIPO, this dynamic network of experts and key stakeholders works tirelessly to support enforcement authorities, the judiciary, businesses and other partners in their battle against IP crime and infringements.
As part of its mission, on 13-14 August 2025 the EUIPO organised a Workshop on Border Control and IPR Enforcement in the EU and Southeast Asia in Jakarta, Indonesia, in the context of the IP Key South-East Asia (IP Key SEA) project. The workshop featured speakers from the Observatory and from the customs, financial and trade mark offices of several EU Member States and South-East Asian countries as well as representatives from European chambers of commerce in South-East Asia.
The topics of discussion included trends, modus operandi and data on counterfeiting worldwide as well as the EU’s legal framework and practical and operational aspects of IPR customs enforcement, including remedies and risk management systems. Over a hundred customs and enforcement officials, such as police, market regulatory agencies, special investigators and prosecutors, participated in the workshop onsite and online.
