IP Key LA and the member countries of PROSUR debate on Trade Marks and Design Examination Guidelines and on Unconventional Trade Marks

IP Key LA and the Superintendencia de Industria y Comercio (SIC) of Colombia have organized a two-day Regional Workshop on Trade Marks and Designs Examination Guidelines, to promote connectable discussions with regard to offices’ practices. The activity will be implemented with the collaboration of the Andean Secretariat and in the context of IP Key’s cooperation with PROSUR.

The meeting aims to explore the current practice of trade mark and design registration procedures in Latin American countries, to analyse different aspects these countries could have in common, and to foster the development of examination guidelines that reflect IPO´s practices in common scenarios.

The activity will take place in Bogota, Colombia on November 26th and 27th, 2018, and is aimed mainly at trade mark and design examiners from the 13 PROSUR countries.

On November 28th, another activity on non-traditional trademarks will take place. Participants will have the opportunity to exchange experiences on the registration of non-traditional trademarks of their respective countries.

The Regional workshop on Unconventional Trade Marks will review the practice of the offices with special emphasis on the representation and distinctiveness requirements for this type of trade marks.
